Holmdel's population grew from under 3,000 people in 1960 to over 8,000 by 1980 and roughly 17,000 by 2020, in two distinct building waves rather than one steady climb. A home built during either of those waves was far more likely to be built with a working masonry fireplace or a solid-fuel-rated flue as a standard feature than a house going up today, where a fireplace is more often an optional add-on.
