Have the burner, pilot, valve and venting cleaned and checked once a year — dust, spiders and venting faults cause most pilot and carbon-monoxide problems.
Between visits
Keep the glass and logset clean, test your carbon-monoxide detector, and watch for a yellow (rather than blue) flame, which can signal a problem.
